Following a Calcutta High Court directive, jobless teachers removed their protest site from outside Bikash Bhavan and announced a new location near the Book Fair grounds adjacent to Central Park. The group had been protesting for the past 15–16 days demanding reinstatement of their jobs. Protesters have requested proper infrastructure at the new protest location.
The teachers stated that they would send letters to Members of Parliament from both ruling and opposition parties, urging them to support an all-party meeting to discuss how their jobs could be restored. They also appealed for the issue to be raised in the Parliament. A formal request has been made for a meeting with West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu.
A representative said, “We have been sitting in peaceful protest for the last 15–16 days, but no minister has met us. We will wait till Monday. If we don’t receive a proper response, we will move towards a larger agitation.” The teachers have also demanded that the state government clarify its position on their demands by Monday.
